For over two decades, Cape Energy Services' leadership group has diligently provided safety services to oilfield operations across Western Canada. After a brief sabbatical, we've re-established—not out of necessity, but driven by a genuine passion for this industry.

Many questions have been asked regarding the name ‘Cape.’

It’s a simple answer: our old company’s name was known as ‘Cloak’. We do not wear a ‘Cloak’ anymore; when you wield your superpowers, you get to wear a ‘Cape’.

Darren Oilund

Darren has a strong background in business and team leadership. He started studying Forest Management at Northwest Polytechnic but left to work with his father on forestry equipment innovations. Darren then joined Weyerhaeuser Canada, advancing from equipment operator to ecological harvest planner and Safety and HR professional from 1991 to 2006. His hands-on experience in mill operations provided him with deep insights into industrial processes and safety protocols, applicable to the oil and gas industry.

In 2003, Darren’s wife founded Cloak Medic Services Inc. experiencing steady growth. In 2006, he left the corporate world to become an entrepreneur alongside her. Together, they built a thriving business that later rebranded as Cloak Medic and Safety Services. The company’s success attracted external investors, leading to its acquisition in 2018. During this time his driven nature in business development, he ventured into the insurance industry, working with CMB Insurance Brokers to serve commercial clients in the energy sector.

However, he felt that a piece of himself remained unfulfilled—unfinished business in the oil and gas industry. Fueled by pure passion, he founded Cape Energy Group Inc., powered by an incredibly talented team and strategic partnerships. The company is already reclaiming its position as a main player in H2S Safety Services and related offerings.

Chris Oilund’s journey exemplifies resilience, adaptability, and a heart for both business and people. Her role as CFO at Cape Energy Group continues to showcase her strategic thinking for growing a company and people.

Chris Oilund, CFO of Cape Energy Group Inc., has three decades of experience building companies in the oil and gas industry. Originally from Saskatchewan, she settled in Grande Prairie, Alberta, in 1983. After graduating from Grande Prairie Polytechnic in 1987, she launched her career in administration and finance.

Chris’s leadership has been instrumental in the success of the former company she founded and co owned which was Cloak Medic and Safety Services whose success caught the attention of investors who acquired it in 2018. Her commitment to people and attention to detail define her business approach. Beyond her entrepreneurial pursuits, Chris actively contributes to her community. She serves as chair of the Pregnancy Care Centre and mentors at Rising Above, an organization helping individuals break free from cycles of defeat. Her strategic thinking as CFO at Cape Energy Group continues to drive growth for both the company and its people giving its landscape a bright future.

Rob Verge, currently serving as the Vice President of Operations at Cape Energy Group, brings over 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Originally from Ontario, he has made Alberta his home for more than two decades. Rob’s unwavering commitment to safety and operational excellence has earned him the trust of clients who rely on him to uphold impeccable safety standards.

In his previous role at Cloak Medic & Safety Services, Rob served as an H2S Safety Supervisor, mentor, and manager. Rob skillfully manages compliance with occupational health and safety regulations relevant to his role. His mission is clear: to lead a team of safety personnel who are not only knowledgeable and competent but also deeply committed to ensuring that every worker returns home safely to their families. Rob’s dedication extends beyond compliance; he values transparency, hard work, and exceptional communication as cornerstones of effective safety management.

As a leader, he fosters an environment where growth, accountability, and teamwork thrive. Additionally, Rob’s project management experience includes successfully leading plant turnarounds and complex initiatives. He coordinates teams, manages resources, and delivers results. Moreover, Rob spent 14 years as a helmsman on large ships, where he was an integral part of the Eastern Canadian Response team. His adaptability, quick thinking, and commitment to safety make him an asset in any high- stakes environment.

Danielle Verge’s career in the oil and gas industry is an example of her steadfast dedication to professional development and safety. Her journey began over thirteen years ago as an Emergency Medical Responder at Cloak Medic & Safety Services, where she quickly demonstrated her adaptability and commitment. Ascending through various roles, including dispatch, Danielle’s journey reached a significant milestone during her eight-year tenure as an HSE/HR Manager, where she played a central role in the company’s operations.

Armed with her Internal Auditor Certification, Danielle ensures compliance and best practices within her organization. Her proactive approach to workplace safety is evident in her involvement in Health & Safety Program Development, where she has been instrumental in creating programs that protect employees and clients. Her experience in Incident & Accident Investigation ensures comprehensive examinations of workplace incidents, leading to a safer work environment.

In her current role as Executive Coordinator for Cape Energy Group, Danielle continues to advocate for the highest safety standards, with a firm belief in the power of effective communication. She has invested in her personal growth, which is evident in her ability to lead her team to success. Her motivation is deeply rooted in her family, whose support is the driving force behind her pursuit of excellence.
